API Engineer - Fundamentals (101)
This workshop will introduce engineers to the fundamentals of designing, documenting, testing and monitoring entirely new APIs from scratch, as well as onboarding, troubleshooting, consuming, documenting, testing and monitoring existing APIs.
Overview
A baseline for all engineering teams in 2024 is that they are aware of the basics of consuming and producing APIs, focusing on what internal engineers will need to succeed in their work. Walking away from this workshop, any engineer will be confident in designing, documenting, testing and monitoring entirely new APIs from scratch, as well as onboarding, troubleshooting, consuming, documenting, testing and monitoring existing APIs.
Prerequisites
- Basic understanding of HTTP
- Basic understanding of REST APIs
Audience
Any engineer who consumes and produces APIs.
Learning objectives
After completing this workshop, learners will be able to:
- Set up workspaces, invite teammates and collaborate together
- Explore the Public API Network to discover and onboard with an existing public API
- Use test snippets to build test suites
- Create and set variables at multiple scopes
- Create comprehensive documentation that helps people understand what your API does, what endpoints are available and how to interact with them successfully
- Design, prototype, share, and iterate upon the design of an API from scratch
- Use the Collection Runner, Scheduled Runs, and Monitors to observe the performance and availability of your APIs
Format
This instructor-led training (ILT) workshop can be delivered virtually or on-site. The workshop consists of several modules, each with two parts: theoretical and hands-on. During the theoretical segment, the instructor introduces a simplified business requirement and then uses the Postman platform's basic and enterprise capabilities to achieve the desired business outcome.
Duration
The duration of this workshop is 1 day (~6 hours), including all modules and breaks.
