Overview
Building on the foundation laid in our Fundamentals workshop, this Intermediate workshop delves further into the complexities and capabilities of API development, testing and integration. Expand your understanding, enhance your skills, and unlock more advanced features of the Postman API platform.
Prerequisites
- Basic understanding of HTTP
- Basic understanding of REST APIs
- Basic understanding of the Postman API Network
- Basic understanding of mocking in Posman
- Ability to work with collection and requests in Postman
- Ability to create workspaces in Postman
- Ability to create and set variables at multiple scopes in Postman
Audience
Any engineer who consumes and produces APIs.
Learning objectives
After completing this workshop, learners will be able to:
- Configure mock servers to return specific examples for testing purposes and use dynamic variables to insert dummy data for a more realistic testing experience
- Access request/response data for discrepancy checks, use faker data to test workflows with different formats/values and run tests via the Postman CLI for efficient pipeline integration
- Import and manage existing API definitions in the Postman API Builder to generate, document, publish and share collections to make your API easily discoverable
- Effectively utilize the Private API Network as the single source of truth for internal APIs to promote API reusability and achieve faster delivery
- Work with multiple authorization protocols, such as API Key-based authentication and Token-based authentication, in a secure manner
- Write scripts to control the request execution order, manage variable values, send requests, chain requests, branch, loop, and insert dummy data using dynamic variables
- Connect Postman and your version control system (VCS) to facilitate efficient collaboration and ensure all team members are working with the most up-to-date resources
- Understand available CI/CD integrations within the Postman API Builder and learn how to find appropriate Postman CLI code snippets for your platform to connect CI/CD pipelines to Collection Runs
Format
This instructor-led training (ILT) workshop can be delivered virtually or on-site. The workshop consists of several modules, each with two parts: theoretical and hands-on. During the theoretical segment, the instructor introduces a simplified business requirement and then uses the Postman platform's basic and enterprise capabilities to achieve the desired business outcome.
Duration
The duration of this workshop is 1 day (~8 hours), including all modules and breaks.
